I'm noticing structure and firm teaching is compatible and successful with being a loving and caring teacher.
The kindergarteners are so young and 'just want to play' at this stage, so playtime has become learning also. Lego becomes building and sharing and making patterns and counting blocks. Drawing and colouring is an assessment of self perceptions and fine motor skills. Trays become grouping objects based on colour and size. Everything is learning, and it is planned that way.
